In , Beck began recording material in Nashville for a new album, but it Randy” were released that year as a non-album single on Third Man’s Blue Series.
Beck — Morning Phase. The album is scheduled to be released on February 25, , on his new label, Capitol Records. According to a press release, Morning Phase will be a “companion piece” to his album Sea Change and “harkens back to the stunning harmonies, song craft and staggering emotional impact of that record, while surging forward with infectious optimism”.
Several of the musicians who recorded parts for Sea Change returned to record for Morning Phase. It was not until that he returned to continue the project, this time recording at Third Man Records which, incidentally had not existed at the time of his previous sessions. His father David Campbell has been reported to have contributed orchestral arrangements for the album, as he had done previously for Sea Change, and several of Beck’s other albums. Adopting the surname “Hansen” after his father left, Beck grew up in Los Angeles, dropping out of school in the tenth grade to play as a street busker and attend poetry slams.
Bashing out blues and folk, Beck wound up assembling a home tape called the Banjo Story before departing for New York, where he operated on the margins of the anti-folk scene without ever breaking into it. He returned to Los Angeles where he continued to play clubs, eventually gaining the attention of Bong Load records, an independent operated by Tom Rothrock and Rob Schnapf. Soon, Beck signed with Geffen, striking a deal that allowed him to release on independent labels. Despite many positive reviews, Beck worked overtime to dispel the notion he was a novelty, quickly releasing two indie albums in succession: the noise-skronk Stereopathetic Soul Manure and One Foot in the Grave.
Stereopathetic made few waves but the stripped—back, folky One Foot in the Grave acted as a counterbalance to the gonzo Mellow Gold, illustrating the depths of his talents. Their collaboration, originally slated for an indie release but moved to Geffen, thereby setting a precedent where no future Beck LP would be released on an indie something worked out in the courts the following year , traded futuristic rock — either the joyous collage of Odelay or the dystopia of OK Computer — for a quiet, pulsating, psychedelic folk-rock album called Mutations.
Riding high on Odelay, the album charted well without turning out any major hits, although it did garner a Grammy for Best Alternative Music Performance.

Beck teams up with Jack White for a release on the Third Man Records Blue Series. Whilst in Nashville working on new material for his long awaited next album.
This copy is for your personal non-commercial use only. No one knows what to expect from Beck on any given record; his last one, “Morning Phase,” was an unremarkable acoustic affair that somehow won the Grammy for Album of the Year in This one is supposedly a return to “party Beck,” which means that a lot of people are still in a year-old time warp hoping that he makes another “Odelay. He’s not going to make another record like the giddy young hipster he once was.
But surely he can make a record that doesn’t sound like a pale imitation of himself: every song here is a somewhat funky groove with an overproduced rock song on top of it. It sounds like. Is the zeitgeist so bad that we have to be nostalgic for that band now?
